Default Newb config questions

Hey all,
I am new to Pro Tools systems but have been recording for years. I am trying to get the most optimum performance out of my Pro Tools system. I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive as my system drive and a Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive as a dedicated audio drive. I am operating on Windows XP Pro.

I know these drives are compatible, but I have read that you should never record or playback to the system drive. I don't exactly understand what this means; should Pro Tools be installed to the system drive while all the session data is saved to the raptor? or should the program itself be installed off the raptor as well?

Lastly, if it doesn't matter which drive Pro Tools is run from, which drive should I install it to in order to get maximum performance?

It does matter.

Pro Tools, and all of it's peripherals (hardware, plugins, etc) should be installed to the system drive.

Pro Tools session files should be stored to a separate physical, dedicated drive. (used only for Pro Tools sessions).

And don't forget to backup your sessions to an external drive or another computer.
