Use MMC (Midi Machine Control).
You can't scrub or nudge with MTC because it take 4 messages to send location. This is always true of the MTC protocol. MMC is gives start/stop, etc commands. You use the two together. MTC give start points, MMC gives relative commands to that start point. So MTC gives location and MMC gives nudge, etc.
