Pro Tools Installation Problem

I searched this forum and I didnt find the answer I was quite looking for but Im having issues on a friends computer who is trying to install Pro Tools 8...

We had Pro Tools 8 already installed on the computer once before but my friend tried to download some plug ins that corrupted the Pro Tools registry...

He is running a Dell Windows PC (XP) with an Intel Core 2 Duo processsor.

When he is trying to install Pro Tools from the disc supplied with his Mbox Pro the installation freezes, I tried to go onto my Digi account and download the amnesty from the website but the installation wont continue past the installation of the factory plug-ins that come bundled with the software...

I went to Guitar Center and the dude told me that I need to download a patch or something that will fix his system...does anyone know of the patch or how I can get Pro Tools installed on his PC? This is very aggravating, any help is much appreciated.
