MIDI editor: display note "names"?
Hi,
Is there some way to set up PT9 so that the keyboard graphic in the MIDI editor displays note names? I am using N.I. Kontakt and large drum libraries that are not mapped to General Midi. It would be very helpful if I could see labels like "Kick", "Snare", etc. I also use Cakewalk's SONAR and they have what is called a Drum Map that you can insert to get this type of function and display. Is there something similar in PT9? I've been reading thru the MIDI documentation and I haven't found anything yet. Thank you and best regards, mike |

Re: MIDI editor: display note "names"?
I imagine that someone would have answered if this is possible.
Does that mean that it's not possible to do in Pro Tools? Thanks and best regards, mike |

If you submit a feature request perhaps Pro Tools HD 17.2 will sport such a HUGE feature!!!

Re: MIDI editor: display note "names"?
Mike
I've tried this workaround on a Mac. I would imagaine that a similar method is possible on a PC. I used TextEdit to produce a list of notes and the drum names. Here's part of one that I did for Garritan JABB Brush Set - I did use TABs to line up the names, but they don't have any effect on this forum: A Mid Tom G# Half Open Hi-hat G Closed Hi-hat RH F# Closed Hi-hat LH F Low Tom E Foot Closed Hi Hat D# Snare RH D Snare LH C# Snare Stir Aftertouch C1 Bass Drum 2 I then changed the font size and inter line spacing so that the notes lined up with those on the MIDI Editor. The font is Helvetica 11 point. Line Height multiple 0 (default) Line Height At least 0 point (default) Inter-line Spacing 2.6 points ----------------before 0 points (default) Paragraph Spacing before 0 point (default) Paragraph Spacing after 0 point (default) I also use the free Mac program called Afloat to keep the TextEdit window floating - so that it is still visible, even when I'm clicking on the MIDI editor. An alternative would be to make sure the textEdit window is outside any Pro Tools or other windows. http://infinite-labs.net/afloat/ It takes some time to type the TextEdit file, but this can be shortened: 1. Using a list of GM drum names on the Internet and then copy/paste. 2. Scan a manual and use an OCR program to convert the scan to text. I hope Avid put drum names into Pro Tools soon. I really miss the feature after using Cubase. Richard

Re: MIDI editor: display note "names"?
Am I correct in saying pro tools still shows blank midi notes in midi edit ?
I am on pt9 and cannot see any way to display note names, this seems like such a fundamental function to leave out. |
