Quicktime on Win7: what is it for?
I installed PT9 last night from a boxed version full install.
The installer didn't find Quicktime on my Win 7 64x machine and instructed me to download it. I have downloaded the latest Quicktime player installer but have not installed it. I finished the PT9 install and it plays the demo session on my MOTU hardware. Cool. So, what do I need the Quicktime for? I have Quicktime pro on a few computers but in general I like to keep it off my machines. What features or functionality does PT9 need Quicktime for on Windows machine? If it is just playing back Quicktime video or something straight forward like that I may just leave it off for now. Please advise. Thanks. best regards, mike |

Re: Quicktime on Win7: what is it for?
Things may have changed but you used to need QT for MP3 conversion/bounce. Could be other reasons too, and as I said, I don't know what has changed in PT9 with QT.

Quote:
Pro Tools has required QT to be installed on one's machine as long as I can remember... so there's nothing new about that. It does have to do with running video in Pro Tools, but you should not elect to leave it uninstalled. It is essentially considered a component for Pro Tools installation and must be installed for proper functionality.

Re: Quicktime on Win7: what is it for?
IIRC, Pro Tools on Windows needs QT installed for a few things; one of them being to save it's preferences.
I'm not sure that's the case still with PT9, and I'm not really curious enough to find out; QT is free, easy to install, and I already had it installed for all of the previous versions (and iTunes) so no big deal.
