Default ProTools Support

I have a case number and have waited for a few days here.
Also, I never really need help. Been using Protools for over 20+ years.
Just needed some help with Dolby Production Suite I am testing out.
So far I have about 90% of it set up. Just need help with the routing.. A good screen share would probably do the trick.
I called twice, the first time today I waited for 15 min and then for some reason got routed to a Media Composer person. They tried to re-route me, then told me to call another number that is supposed to be direct to Protools with a prompt. It wasn't I was on hold twice and then got disconnected and the gave me a busy signal. From what I am reading on line, it seems a lot of people have not have much success with Avid support, but at any case I need to get this sorted before the first of the year in case I need to purchase some additional hardware etc.
Hopefully someone from Avid is listening. This is mainly for them. A 5-10 min screen share should do the trick with setting up the IO in my 5.1 room which is what I need help with. G

If you post your Case Number here, it will help Mods & Higher escalate your case.

Realise you’re using 5.1 - and I have zero experience in using either 5.1 or 7.1, but I noticed these:

I guess the post did not work. Anyway reposting here. I have looked at all of these posts and have studied carefully. Again, I am 90% there. Some of the YOuTube videos explaining from Avid are a bit outdated, because of the software updates to Dolby Atmos Production Suite, which is part of what I am seeing here...i.e. they have changed things, but is not reflected in Avid videos about it. Also, I have learned more from the Capital Studios Webinar they did a month or two ago than I did and probably need to re-watch that. The problem is that my interface is an older Avid HD IO and it's a little hard to figure how this will work. Thank for the reply and I'll try and post the case number even though it got closed by mistake for some odd reason. I emailed them about it, but no response. G

Hi Gregory, Mike from Pro Tools Expert here. I recommend you check out the full 6 part series of free tutorials that Alan Sallabank made for us. I was able to set up my HDX 1 system with an HD Omni by following this series.

With regard to your HD I/O, it should be possible to us this providing you have 12 analog outputs you can allocate to the 7.1.4 monitor outputs. Also with an HD I/O you will need to get a 7.1.4 monitor controller to be able to control the monitor level etc.

Other observations are that using the Dolby Atmos Production Suite with the Dolby Audio Bridge, you lose the ability to use AAX DSP plugins. This is because you are allocating the HDX card and your interface to the DAPS. Because in the Pro Tools Playback Engine you need to change it from HDX to the Dolby Audio Bridge.

Hope that helps,

Mike

Hi Mike Wow! Nice to get such and infamous response-:)!! I always enjoys your tutorials thru the years as well as reviews. I finally got someone calling me to do a consult today. Jeff Komar, Avid Product Specialist, is going to give me a hand, but I do, (as always), appreciate your help and info as well! I think I have looked at every single video about Dolby that is out there. I just had a bit of trouble understanding the IO routing, with my particular system. BTW, I am on a Native system at the moment, NOT HDX, so not sure what that will mean here as far as plugins. I will probably grab an MTRX interface after the first of the year at minimum, but figured this could work with my existing system to try things out! I have the Dangerous Music ST and SR and hoping that will work for my controller. I am mostly dong composing and sound design, but have done a lot of re-recording, dialogue edit and final mix on INDY films and web series as of late. Seems like this may be also good for some of my music artist clients as well. PS. I did see these videos and those were the BEST to help set things up. I have not seen all of them totally, but I am sure there is something I overlooked. I am about 90% there at this point.
Thanks again for your help on this as well! Much appreciated. G

Default Re: ProTools Support

Had a great Call and screen share with Jeff Komar yesterday. SUPER nice guy! He took about an hour with me and we went thru everything. I still have some things to learn and get locked in, but it went really well! The IO was for sure a hard thing to figure out on my own quickly, but it's all set up now and they have really tweaked the Dolby Renderer now so it runs with hardly any CPU usage on my end. Got a lot of great tips on how to set outputs on the Renderer and how to use it to export files. Very cool. I am running a 2013 3.5GHZ 6Core Mac Pro with 64GB of Ram. Good news!! Avid HD IO will work for now with getting me started on monitoring in my room, since I don't have all the speakers in yet. I did also set up the Binural Headphone option in the Renderer as well, so I can monitor there. Still looking at MTRX and MTRX Studio, but will probably go with an MTRX Interface since I can customize it for the future. Seems like the best option for what I do here.

BIG THANKS TO Jeff Komar AND ALL OF THE FOLKS HERE ON THE DUC WHO HELPED ME THRU THE YEARS.
