my Pro Tools 7.3 LE pencil tool stopped working

sitting here trying to stretch out a track and my pencil tool now looks like a hologram. I can move it around and everything but I can't click on the track to stretch it. is this really happening? anybody else had this issue on PT7.3 LE or higher?

any info is appreciated
