Default RCA ins on the 002

i'm trying to run taped tracks into the 002 and protools using the "alt src to in 7-8" feature. it's working but the levels are too hot and it's causing clipping in protools. unfortunately my external tape player has no volume control. so how can i bring these levels down in protools? is there a way to insert a compressor or limiter before clipping occurs?

have you tried pushing in the buttons that control the input for 7-8? i'm not sure if these are normalled to also control the alt-src inputs, but its worth a shot. i use my alt-src all the time and the level isn't hot at all.
