Default Connecting Carbon + S1 + internet

I am getting the Carbon pretty soon and was thinking about grabbing an S1 also. Plus I use a cable internet connection for stability.

What would be the best way to connect these 3 ethernet devices to a macbook pro with 4 TB 3 ports?

Avid?

Regards,
Alberto Lombardi

A supported way would be an Apple TB2 Gigabit Ethernet adapter (via TB2 to TB3 adapter) into one port, connected to the Carbon; and other devices via a separate adapter (or perhaps TB3 hub with built in Ethernet adapter) into your switch/router.

An unsupported way would be to use an AVB switch such as those available from Presonus, MOTU, Extreme or Luminex.

thanks Luke. Sucking up 2/3 TB3 ports is less than ideal, it would be interesting to see the unsupported solution at work

Your best bet would be to borrow a MOTU or Presonus AVB switch from a colleague or dealer, see if it works. Of course, if you have an AVB-related issue you'd need to return to a supported configuration before seeking help from Avid.

Does anybody else have a take on how to handle ethernet ports while using Carbon?

Avid Perhaps?

Hi Alberto,

Currently, we don’t qualify connecting Carbon to a switch. The qualified method of connection is to an Ethernet port or adapter(s) on qualified Mac. More information here: https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...ements#network

What works for me on a Mac mini (Intel) 2018 is to connect Carbon to the built-in Ethernet and use a USB-C hub with an integrated Ethernet for Internet and Eucon devices.

Best

Mark

I have my Carbon wired directly into my Mac Mini (late 2018, only one ethernet port) and my Artist Control going into the second ethernet port on Carbon. Artist Control is working great with this setup.

Makes me curious, can Carbon pass a hard-wired internet signal through to the computer via the second ethernet port as well?
