Default Original MBox to be dropped

Just a note that Digi made a EOSS Announcement regarding the support of the original Mbox and some other hardware today.

It is a good thing I use my MBox to run Reaper then. Again Digi lets me down. Why drop support for a perfectly good piece of hardware? I know all the typical reasons, but come on, the mbox is NOT an outdated device.

Does this mean my original MBox will not work with future PTLE upgrades? or does that just mean that technical support will not answer our questions?

I think it means that A) it wont be tested or qualified and B) If a update breaks compatibility it wont be fixed. It doesn't mean that its necessarily going to stop working with say 8.1 though. Digi has been hinting that the original MBox might be dropped for a while while at the same saying that they would support it as long as feasable.

I'm guessing that the want to free up some coders time which could be good.

A LOT of us started with MBoxes.

It means that the original Mbox will not be supported. It may work but if you are running unsupported hardware and require technical assistance then you are effectively on your own.

Well, as long as they support my MBox Pro for years to come, I should not complain. It's better than the original MBox anyway. I just wanted my original MBox around so I could turn on Pro Tools to edit sessions if my MBox Pro was not available

I'll be sad if the MBOX isn't supported anymore. I've had mine for 6 years and still use it when I'm on the road, or at home. It's still a vital bit of kit for me...for editing...

What a waste of time. I signed up for the Beta testing. Useless now since the mbox isn't supported with it. Doesn't seem very fair, either. If you're going to drop a piece of hardware from your support, do it at an even release (ie. PTLE 7.0, PTLE 8.0...), not half way through updating a version of software. That's messed up. So now we mbox users have to upgrade hardware or else never get to use it on a 64-bit platform?

FOR SHAME, DIGIDESIGN. That's a good first strike in my books. I knew the mbox would be dead soon, but in the middle of version 8.0.x releases? Why not wait until version 8.3 is coming out in the future? Why in the middle of updating a current version?
