Default can I change the new window behavior of plug ins?

I don't know exactly since which version this new behavior was introduced.

When I open (without locking the target button) a plug in and click on another track the opened plug in window closes automatically

I never had this with older Versions. Is there way to change this behavior in the prefs? I don't find anything.

OP is taking about clicking on another track closes the open plug-in. That is not the way that has always worked.

What the OP is seeing is a Eucontrol setting. (I can almost guarantee without asking, OP is running Eucontrol.)
To OP, you want to uncheck “close Windows when exiting” in Eucontrol. I’ve answered this question in other threads if you want a longer response.

Are you using a Eucon surface? If so, you may have changed the Eucon prefs.

BScout tought me this in the thread he's referring to.
To be precise:
Eucontrol settings, 'general' tab:
deselect 'close windows on workstation when exiting'.

The target button works like it always has, and is not relevant here.

It’s on page 106 of the Using EuControl Surfaces Guide.
