Default Help instelling PT 8 on Win 7

So I know there's lots of threads on this and I've read a few, thing is there's so many posts I just don't have the time at the moment to read through 50 pages on of posts and 10 threads to get to the info cause I got to get this rig up with the quickness. So help me out if you can good people of the DUC..

New I5 rig just built yesterday. Fresh Win7 ultimate 32 install. PT8. I know WIN7 isn't supported but folks say it runs fine after tweaking. So...

Changed the install launcher on the file DVD (right clicked) to Vista SP2 compatibility and run as admin. Installed PT8. No love. PT crashes at boot.

Gonna do the same to the LE.exe shortcut on the desktop next.

What do I need to do next?

Thanks for your help guys.

I don't recall ever seeing this is all those pages and threads. I just installed to Win 7, no special "installer compatibility" required.

Got Internet Explorer 8 on there? Uninstall it. "This is not true."

This IS true for a vast majority of people, SOME people have gotten lucky, but here's DIDIG's official stand on IE8. http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=243184

I had a problem with IE8 on Win7 x64 (PT stall on startup). It was absolutely related to a certain plug-in and it could absolutely be worked around by editing the registry to allow cookies (the Avid fix). This plug-in has since been fixed to work without the registry edit.

I would bet that there are a lot of plug-ins out there that have not been updated to work properly with IE 8.

Best advice at this point is to listen to Digi on this one. If you are having PT startup problems, don't install IE8.

On a side note: Benoni, where are you getting your data that tells you what the vast majority of people are doing and what they experience? Please post the data and I will volunteer to do the statistical analysis on it so we can get an unbiased picture of what's really going on.

I cannot tell you which plug-in it was as the company that makes it asked me to keep it confidential at least until they issue their formal, public update. They said it would be soon.

My real point is that there are probably a lot of plug-ins that have not been updated for compatibility with IE8. Just because you may not have them, and hence the issue, doesn't mean we should tell everyone that use of IE8 is OK.

Data comes from surveys and other formal ways of gathering it. Until you have this, all you really have is an opinion - and everyone has at least one of those.

Yes, it was an iLok authorization and it was not Digi. And yes, Digi is way behind on approved parts. But it is what it is.
