Default Frustration to say the least...

OK...It's been a couple of months since I used PT. I have only had it about 4 months and thought I new enuf about it not to ask a question like this, but today I began creating a demo. 1st track was midi track all sequenced. That went fine. 2nd track was piano accompaniement and fill ins. That, too was fine. 3rd track was main vocals and that went well. So now, I thought I would create another audio track (vox) to put a bit of harmonizing where I thought it would be best. Do you think I can get the mic to give me a signal on the mix tracks...NO!!! I can move right up the page and go from voice to piano to midi, arm that track to record and I get a reading. As soon as I go down to the new vocal track and arm it, NOTHING. The mbox is in mic mode, the settings have not changed one bit. What in blazes am I missing here?

Since you have two inputs to chose from, there should be two to choose from on the track you are trying to record. If the track you are trying to record is set to the other input, you won't get any signal.

Typically on the mBox, the inputs are labelled Mic/Line 1 and Mic/Line 2 on the tracks input selector. Just make sure you have the right one selected.

My god...you're right. The default was mic/1 and I was using mic/2 for the first vocal track. Thanks so much. You have helpd me before.

As long as you're doing so well. When I record my vocal track, I have the other tracks playing so I can hear music so the lyrics fit. I have noticed that when I play the vocal track back alone, music from the other tracks are ovbiously bleeding in to the vocal track. How could I eliminate this bleeing but also needing to hear the music to sing the lyrics?

First thing you should try is a set of closed type studio headphones.
Then turn the monitoring down a bit.
And yes.. spkguitar is the dude, in helping folks out.
good luck,

Sometimes I'll be scratchin' my head for about 15 min only to realize the mic pre isnt on, or the mic isnt plugged in, or I'm using the wrong input etc.

I had a singer in the vocal booth one day sayin "check, check, I cant hear myself" into the mic. I adjusted the headphone amp, checked all connections etc, everything was fine. He continued rambling saying "check, I CANT HEAR ANYTHING" and getting very annoyed.

I looked over at him through the glass into the ISO booth, stood up, walked out of the control room, then into the ISO booth and looked at him and said "Put your headphones on bro".

It's always something silly.

I had that happen at work. Couldnt hear the VO whatever i tried. Fitting a mic did wonders.....

The VO talent itself didnt notice, because the mic usualy is obscured by the popfilter. And if he did...he couldt tell me anyway....(isobooth has no windows....not my choice)
