Ok, this isn't really a true Pro Tools question, but I figured somebody might be able to help.
On the Pc that I use Pro Tools, I am unable to hear audio playback in some instances. I can play a cd in either of the 2 drives and I hear the audio fine. I cannot hear the audio when I play a file in CD architect, or an internet radio station, or Band in a Box (using the internal sound card), etc... What is the deal? I have checked to make sure all Volume Controls are not muted and turned up.I am using the onboard soundcard on an ASUS A7v333 board. It sure sounds like something simple, but I guess I am missing it. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

well, first off, i'm assuming that you are monitoring the on-board soundcard mini jack output, through a mixer, or another set of speakers.
for 3rd part applications, you need to find the "audio" dialog... for example.. in CD architect, under...Options - Preferences - Preview tab, you'll have a pull down menu - Microsoft sound Mapper - windows classic wave driver - (and your sound card will be called something like C-Media) you may want to go into your device manager to find the name of the on board sound card.... you need this card selected, for audio to play out it. again, it will plau out the green mini jack, built into the mother board, on the back of your computer. If you d/l Rail's MME Helper (do a DUC search) you can register most of these apps with the wav driver 6.1.1 and play the audio right out your pro-tools monitoring.

Thanks Kingfish, I'll take a look at your suggestion on using the Wave Driver.

Some pc audio players won't play 24 bit files. Could be the case here. My Windows Media Player 9 won't, or I just don't know how to configure it. Winamp will, however.
Good luck
