Default midi outputs? aux track or instrument track?

What is the difference between an aux track and an instrument track? I've seen some tutorials using aux and some tutorials using instrument tracks. Some say to use aux track for only reverb and delay effects. I want to use sampletank 2 as my virtual instrument so which output do i use?

Those would fall under the realm of Virtual (Computer-Based) Instruments, wouldn't you think?

in the protools method 1 dvd, the guy uses an aux track as an output to his midi track when he was using sampletank. in another dvd tutorial a guy uses an instrument track, i'm just confused. so both ways work?

hello,

instrument tracks were only introduced recently to Pro Tools LE in version 7 (i think) and before this we had use a midi/aux configuration.

So both ways work but the instrument track way is much easier - which is why it was introduced.

cheers
