Problem with using Pro Tools Developer
Hi,
I'd like to develop some AAX plugins and it is required to use Pro Tools Developer version. I am working on Macbook Pro M1 Pro. I download the app from products page (the arm version, but honestly none works, even the intel one) and install it. Once installation is finished I have the "Installation was succesful", but at the same time iLok License Manager throws an error: Code:
Software Component Unvailable A background component required for iLok License Manager seems to be unavailable. If rebooting does not fix this issue, please visit iLok.com to download and run the latest License Support installer. Code:
Pro Tools Developer is trying to install a new helper tool Code:
Pro Tools needs to install a helper tool. Please launch Pro Tools again. The application doesn't show in Avid Link. I have applied successfully for the "Pro Tools Developer Build" license. I hope someone came across something similar. Thanks in advance, Marek |

Re: Problem with using Pro Tools Developer
I suspect as a developer you are supposed to be getting support elsewhere, not on DUC.
But I suspect you may just not have approved the install of Pro Tools in macOS privacy and security settings, or at least something has gone wrong there. If you want help on DUC try installing the publicly available Intro version, and if there are problems include the exact macOS version and other expected info, see “help us help you” up the top of each DUC web page. Many of us just uninstall Avid Link, it is unreliable bloatware IMNSHO, you are better off doing everything manually. |

Re: Problem with using Pro Tools Developer
I'm getting this issue as well and I am not a developer.
After installing Pro Tools 2023.3 on my macOS Ventura 13.2.1 (22D68) M1Max MacBook Pro, I get the pop up "Pro Tools needs to install a helper tool. Please launch Pro Tools again." and I cannot launch Pro Tools. I have tried launching in Apple Silicon native as well as Rosetta but I get the same error. I have tried re-installing Pro Tools 2023.3 through both Avid Link as well as the DMG download but it did not help. I searched online for the error and I found the suggestion to delete any files which match /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.avid.* but that also did not help. |

Re: Problem with using Pro Tools Developer
Ok, I have it working, here are the few things I have tried:
1. Enable system extensions (from security and privacy settings), that's a bit fiddly but a quick google will do it. 2. In order for PT Dev to run you have to run an actual PT first in order to install such helper tools (PT Dev won't do it on its own) if you don't have a proper PT license, as Darryl said, just install the Intro and run it once, it will install the helper tools for you, after that you should be able to run the Dev version. The Ilok crash/bug seems unrelated, sent me off a wrong path too, point 1 could be useless but it's something I did (which didn't solve the problem on its own). Just leaving this here for future developers that might run into the same issue. |

Re: Problem with using Pro Tools Developer
Adding this for future googlers:
Error message: "pro tools needs to install a helper tool. please launch pro tools again." Solution: 1. Launch Terminal (/Applications/Utilities) 2. Copy and paste this line: Code:
sudo chown root /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.avid.bsd.shoetoolv120.plist 4. Next, copy and paste this line: Code:
sudo launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.avid.bsd.shoetoolv120.plist Source: The link posted above. |
