Hi everyone, this is my first time posting a thread, and I really need some help.
I have been using Pro Tools 2020.11 on my MacBook Pro 16G, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, and its been working perfectly fine. Now, when I click on the icon, the loading window remains on "Initializing Database" and tab reads, "an error occurred while reading the documents". Please, any advice will help Thanks, Daniel |

Daniel,
I have a similar problem and cannot find an answer here. I see that no one has responded to your query either. I'm not very impressed with this forum. Sorry I can't help. YouTube was no help either. Basically, I have lost an entire project in the cloud. Pro Tools IMHO is pretty unreliable. David |

Did you find a work round for this? I have the same message when trying to launch PT Ultimate

Hi all, welcome to the community.
First double check your system (OS/PT) is supported, then take a look at the Help Us Help You page linked to the forum header. Thank you.

Having the same issue getting "error occurred while reading the document", hangs , then quits
think it has to do with drive space I had a video editor running in background, wrote some huge cache files I have plenty of drive space now have tried trashing prefs, zapped pram, installed update PT2020.9.1 on Catalina kinda stuck here, any ideas? |

I had to re install Catalina and PT . I tried reinstalling just PT before the Mac was wiped but it wouldn’t work. The only thing I found that could have stopped the re install of PT working was the protools folder in documents, I only realised this when I installed PT on the newly cleaned Mac. It’s a shame Avid can’t give an uninstall tool. Perhaps trash the protools folder and then re install PT , see if that works. Otherwise it’s wipe the Mac

I had plenty of drive space available when the problem occurred, no idea what caused it

It is amazing how many random errors go away simply by clean installing OS to an empty storage WITHOUT using any automated migration tool such as Migration Assassin or Time Machine. Copy everything manually, install everything from latest version installers (not copy from previous system) and there you are.

Has anyone figured out a fix? Can't use Pro Tools at all and avid support isn't getting back to me

The only fix I found was to re install the OS on the Mac. You might want to try and ditch the protools folder in Documents, bin PT from applications, empty the trash and then re install PT. If that fails then its a case of re installing the OS. Avid suggested "fixing disk permissions" that didnt work but worth a go first
