Default upgrade question

I'm currently running 8.6 with a G3/350mhz with 512mb (Blue and White) and digi 001 with protools 5.0.

I just bought a G4 Power Mac G4/dual 450mhz/256mb ram. I will add 256mb. The system it is running on is 9.2.

My question is, can I run Protools 6.0 with the new G4 or do I have to run 5.3.1. If I upgrade to 10 could I then run 6.0 and last I have a project x harddrive. Will that work with the G4.

Thanks

Yup, yup , yup and yup......
Today is your lucky day....you can upgrade your computer to Jaguar. I believe it has to be 10.2.4 to run ProTools 6.0. In fact if your harddrive is formated in MacOS Extended(You can check this by clicking on your main drive and Getting Information Apple+I) You can have both OS 9.2 and OS X on the same drive. That means you can switch startup disk (you can do this in the control panel by going to Startupdisk). But, yes you can run OS X on the G4 and take advantage of dual processing with ProTools 6.0. Good luck...and another thing if your computer has a firewire Port for the Project X drive and your project X drive has a firewire port...THEN BAMMM it must work....but yes your Project X drive will work and you will be able to play 32 tracks at 48K off of it too....email me if you have any questions

I have a G4 450 (single processor) 1.2gb RAM. Digi 001
On my first partition I have OS9 and PTLE 32track Beta
On my second Partition I'm running OSX 10.2.5 and PTLE 6.0.1. This seems to be running pretty stable on my setup.
I keep the OS9 version so I can use all my plugs as well as Battery.

you should have no problem running with the dual 450. My only suggestion is that OSX is a RAM hog so stock up (at least 1 gig) . Ram is pretty cheap these days.

If you haven't already done so, you should go through the OS X compatibility documents:

The Pro Tools 6 upgrades are full installers, meaning you don't need to have Pro Tools (any version) previously installed on your computer.

So yes, you can go from PT 5 to PT 6.

You can even have both 5.1.1 and 6.0 installed on a dual boot system, one of the links in the compato docs. Your Pro Tools LE 6 upgrade should also include an authorization for Pro Tools LE 5.1.1. So you can download that from the Downloads section and use that on the same computer if you are running a dual boot system.
