Try a de-esser. One of the best/most versatile is the Oxford.

Not sure if anyone suggested this, but have you tried simply altering the note velocity? Also, is it truly that jarring? The reality is that this is how violins tend to sound in that register when played loud enough, the scratchiness will if anything add a subtle layer of realism to your sequence.

Other than than, de-esser makes sense, or just scanning a graphic EQ with a fairly high Q to find the most offending frequency and remove it.

Yes, the offending noise seems to be even at any velocity and volume.
A simple notch EQ doesn't suffice and I didn't try a de-esser yet, but unless I miss something, if an EQ doesn't work, how and why a de-esser would ?

I agree 100% on realism and the behaviour of the real instrument, but they are recorded so dry/close (which is a good thing in my book),
that close noises are highlighted even when they shouldn't, i.e.:
When you add space with reverb, it's like listening to an instrument from a more distant location, and farthest you are, less you hear close details;
(Hope that makes sense)

But in this case, close noises are there in the dry track, no matter what you're doing, unless cutting seriously the low end of the signal on the reverb send and really soak it, until the dry signal almost disappears in the dry/wet mix. (not very versatile)

I'm doing my best to explain the situation, it's not a complaining post, don't get me wrong, I'm trying to understand something that's beyond me.

If you want, I can send you examples of those strings, just PM me.
I would like to post them here but I don't know if I'm allowed to do so !?

Thanks,
Ludo.

Well, according to VSL's forum guys, there's no problem (read: the problem is me ).
I must be a moron after all....
I don't know, there's surely something I'm doing wrong or misunderstand.

I'm desperately open to any suggestions

I can send examples of those strings to anyone interested, that way, you could tell me if there's something abnormally wrong with them.
Just send me a private message or ask me in this thread.

THANKS !!!!!!!

Hi, it's me again !

I have now listened and tried (via Try-Sound.com) all VSL libraries from Solo to App strings, and the noise is here no matter what I'm doing.
I have also tried other ones with the same "issue".

The only ones I couldn't try are LASS, EASTWEST and 8DIO, because there are no available software demos, but my guess is that this phenomenon is the same on all libraries.

So I think I must focus on how to remove well this noise instead:
The best solution I found to attenuate or even remove this noise is the denoiser of Izotope RX2, and it works relatively well.

I was able to reduce / remove this noise by capturing its properties (noise profile), and applying the denoiser on the audio track.

But there's a drawback: if the performance has a huge variation of velocity / Volume or Expression, the denoiser will remove more or less tonal information of the instrument.

Now, I'm trying to find a solution to replace and mimic the velocity / Volume and expression controls of Vienna Instrument Pro once printed to an audio track.
This way, I can use a static noise profile without major degradation to the instrument and apply all expression after treatment.

Maybe with several audio tracks for each velocity layers combined with volume automation ?

I didn't find a better solution than a denoiser for the moment.

What do you think ?
I'm going mad !!!

Thanks.
Ludo.
