Default edit select permanently separate from playback; pref setting not working

SOLVED

Like the subject says, my edit selection and playback cursor are completely separated... seemingly permanently, regardless of my preference selection under "preferences"-->"editing". I don't know of any other setting that would cause this to happen. Any ideas, or is my PT8 just F'd?

Thanks!
