Default MBox crackle, software of hardware?

I have this macbook:

And I'm running an MBox 2 Mini

I have a constant crackling sound like an old LP on everything that passes through the MBox, both in and out.

Is that most likely a hardware problem?

I have reinstalled all the drivers and restarted everything. I also ran power from a different outlet to see if that was the problem.

Try different wires.

Also, make sure the sampling rate is correct.

Since you didn't list your complete system, it's hard to guess where the problem may be. Do you have an outboard digital device that may be set at the wrong sampling rate to match what PT is set at?
