Default how do I find out what chipset I have?

I am still having severe problems with my mbox. I can only think that it must be an incompatible chipset. The intel chipset identifier program does not seem to work on my computer. Any other way of finding out what chip set it is?

If it is an in compatable chip set, is there any chance of it becoming compatable or do I have to get cubase et al to get my mbox running?

All I know is that it is a pentium 4 and is 3.06 ghz. The computer is a Dell inspiron 5150 that I bought in January 2004.

Thanks

Use BIOS Identifier. You can download it from my server here

It's in German, but it's pretty obvious what it all means

I tried it, but the results flash accross the screen in DOS and disappear. Anyway of slowing this down so I can read it?

thanks

Odd that. Mine doesn't disappear. Mind you, I now remember other DOS windows closing - XP doesn't like them. Try the 'pause' button.

Or restart in DOS and run it from there? Put it on a floppy first so you can find it.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong someone, but when you start up the PC the relevant info is briefly at the bottom of your screen. You have to hit 'pause' quickly to be able to read it.

download CPU-Z to determine basic information about your system without having to install any software.

unzip the file and double click cpuz.exe which has the cpu-like icon. once it appears, click the mainboard tab and your chipset will be revealed!

if you require more detailed analysis, download sisoft sandra lite.

a lot of OEM system manufacturers such as dell and ibm have their own splash screen during the POST sequence so you don't get to see any of the system information during boot. although many systems don't display a message as such, hitting tab usually gets rid of the splash screen and displays POST info...
