Default audio track sync(not MIDI)

I record audio tracks from my Roland xp-80, that have been sequenced and quantized to 100 bpm, for example. I press record in ptle7.3.1 and then press play on my roland but 100bpm on the roland doesn't quite match 100bpm in Protools.

I'm also getting increase H/W buffer errors. I have an external hard drive that worked just fine, connected USB for a long time but then I started getting H/W buffer errors again so I switched to the firewire 800 ports on the external hard drive. Only problem is my laptop only has a 4-pin 1394 port. so I bought a 9-pin to a 4-pin cable and it worked about as well as USB.

My laptop has an 80Gb hard drive now, that Dell told me had a "SATA interface" but it only has one place available for a hard drive on the mother board so whatever I use there, will be the HD that the Operating system is on.

I can buy a firewire express card, apparently, that will allow me to hook firewire 800 to 800. I think that's my best option but don't know if that will solve the beat-clocks-not-matching-up issue.

any advice? (sandra below)

Your chipset may be an issue, the Dell firewire controller will always be an issue. You must disable the wireless when using Pro Tools and you must have a physically separate hard drive to record your sessions to. If firewire, both the motherboard firewire controller and the chipset in the enclosure must be Digidesign approved.

If you can get and use an eSATA ExpressCard with an eSATA external drive that will mean you don't have to be worried about chipsets for your external drive at least and eSATA will be faster than even firewire 800.

Cheers,

I was chatting w/ a dell representative for an hour the other day and he said my only option was the firewire express card. I don't know anything about eSATA except I did see that protools wasn't compatible with it in their instructions.

can I do a sandra report while my external hard drive is connected to view it's chipset?

Those yellow flags are telling you that you need some drivers for something. I would disconnect the Mbox and try to solve that problem first. I assume this is a laptop? You MUST disable wifi when running Pro Tools.

Regarding you first problem:
[QUOTE=rogee;1500449]100bpm on the roland doesn't quite match 100bpm in Protools. QUOTE]

Unless you pieces of gear are linked by a master clock of some sort there will always be a little tempo drift. Your 100bpm will even vary computer to computer unless they are clocked to the same source.

Since you already have done your sequences before dropping them into PT you could just take their bar/beat measurement and assign these to the proper place of the imported audio using the "Identify Beat" command.
