How do you speed up the tempo to music already recorded?
I recorded a band and they added all the instruments, but then realized that the song was too slow. So they asked if I could speed up the tempo of the music to make the song faster. How would I go about doing that?
Thank you for your time, Miguel |

Re: How do you speed up the tempo to music already recorded?
If your working in ProTools 7.4 or higher. Just add Elastic Audio to the tracks in the session. Once you do this, all you have to do is edit the master BPM of a the session. All the audio will move by itself.
Be warned. You will be able to change the BPM a little but once you start doing real big adjustments, you might pick up some artafacts in the audio from the waveforms compressing or stretching. I have gotten away with a change of 10 BPM up or down without too much trouble. Hopefuly you only wanna go a little. Let us know how this works for you! Nick

I have found that doing a track at a time with Pitch ‘n Time Pro causes fewer artifacts, but of course that’s not a cheap plug-in.

Re: How do you speed up the tempo to music already recorded?
For 'final mixes' I use a program called TimeFactoryII from ProSoniq http://www.prosoniq.com/main/timefactory-2-mac/ (demos available on the site). This is a standalone app that is AWESOME. It will take some time to do the compression/expansion, but is TOTALLY worth the wait. It is very tweakable and allows preview modes, to an extent.
I've used it with TV production numbers (Miss California, etc.) shifting the time as much as 12% slower on a piece and you COULD NOT TELL, except for the fact it was slower!! I believe it was Elvis Presley's "ALL SHOOK UP" and it just felt good at that tempo. Sounded like the King tracked it at that speed!! Worth looking into, ESPECIALLY if you're a POST guy (radio/TV, etc). It's NOT a plug-in, but still worth looking at.

Re: How do you speed up the tempo to music already recorded?
HI,
I guess the cheapest way is to got to PT7.4 use Elastic Audio on each track and choose x-form rendering (conform). BTW the X-Form Plug-in just usually goes for $120 or less on ebay and is considered to be among the best Time plugs out there. Of course you can always try TC/E and see if you can live with that. Speeding up is WAY LESS critical than streching. best

Re: How do you speed up the tempo to music already recorded?
I would like to second what Tom said. Pitch and Time is flawless. Really takes TCE to the next level. And of course, if you have time ability, use what ever kind of TCE you want on all the tracks, instead of a final setero master file. But, out of all the different things I have tried, PNT can do the best job.
