usb 2 hard drive for pro tools 9 use
Hi everybody,
I'm new to this group and am coming up to speed with pro tools 9 in a Digi003 environment. I run win 7. I'm looking for a good external hard drive for audio data that runs at 7200 RPM and uses USB 2.0 as it's interface. Avid says do not use firewire with win 7 so I'm checking out new data drives using USB 2.0. Any help greatly appreciated....Thanks George |

Re: usb 2 hard drive for pro tools 9 use
is this for a desktop or laptop?
Have you considered using e-sata, which is much faster than USB or firewire, or using another internal hard drive if you have the space.

Thanks for the info, I am aware of e-sata, but I'm looking for portability between laptop and desktop, as well as external to the pc

For external drives, its usually cheaper to "build" your own. Just buy your favorite internal hard drive, buy an External Enclosure, and put the drive in the case. These cases work good for me, and have E-SATA and USB2.0 connections http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-042-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-043-_-Product Also the Western Digital MyBook Home external drive works ok with Pro Tools and has USB, Firewire, and E-Sata hook ups. If you buy an empty case, then Western Digital Caviar Black hard drives with 32MB or 64MB cache would be a good choice for a hard drive to put in the case.
