Default Evo 4G Android 2.2 and Pro Tools 9

Hello all:

I am a dedicated Mac user and professional engineer and musician using Pro Tools 9. I have several Mac computers (desktop, Imac, Macbook Pro, Ipad etc...).

I love the Iphone but decided that since I use Gmail and Google Calendar etc, I wanted to get an Evo 4G instead of an Iphone. I am very happy with the phone and already being a Sprint customer made the transition as easy as possible. Unfortunately, I see Pro Tools and Logic controlling Apps only in the Mac App store and nothing in the Android marketplace.

I know this will probably change soon, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a product which is being developed and implemented specifically to control Pro Tools 9 with an Android phone.

Many Thanks

p.s. I wanted to add that I record myself quite a bit for other artists albums, and it would be nice to have the phone on my music stand in the studio.

HAHAHAHAHAH. Sorry to laugh. (Not really.)

Gmail and google calendar work perfectly fine on iPhone, actually. 3GS is going for $49 right now w a 2 yr contract. Or you could probably find a used 3G or iPod Touch on some bidding or want-ad site for cheap enough to make it worth it. No contract or data plan needed then, since you'd be using it on a wi-fi network. You'd likely have less than $100 in it with hard- and software. Better yet, get a 1st gen iPad wi-fi only if you can swing $400 plus the app.

If you already have an iPad, why not buy a controller app for that?

Having both a iPhone and a Android tablet I will venture that my next phone or tablet will not be running IOS.

The advantages of an open platform or the abiltiy to run real hardware that will let you install a full fledged OS are to hard to ignore. Some will enjoy the ease of use that the walled garden offers. I suspect most when they see that the other options are just as easy to use or offer far more options will think twice about things.

A Android app would be hugely popular.

I'm actually quite happy with the Evo. I have no issues with it and actually prefer it over the Iphone. I was playing with my buddies Iphone yesterday, and like it a lot by the way. I say this as a diehard Mac user, owner and fan. The only issue I have with the Android platform so far is not having a decent Pro Tools controller. Money is not the issue. I can easily afford an Iphone.

The Ipad is bigger than I would like for this particular use. It serves it's purpose elsewhere in the studio.

I don't mean to be rude at all but the above responses where in no way helpful, professional, or addressed my original question.

Gosh, sorry. Since the answer to your original question is "No," I thought I'd offer possible alternative solutions. But I do think it's pretty funny that a Mac-fan Android user is wanting what only iOS people have at present. It just is.

Yes. You are correct. I'm sorry. That's hysterical.............

We can laugh, and maybe I can play with your Iphone and wish it was mine.

The future is platform agnostic as far which apps gain real traction in the marketplace. This is one of the reasons Google has done so well. Stuff like Angry Birds etc. It's all cross platform.

My advice would be to contact the software devoloper and mention that you would like to see an Android port. You may be the vote that tips the scale.

Another possibility is to use a remote desktop protocol app of some kind. There ought to be Android apps for that. Something that hooks into Remote VNC or whatever server apps run on Macs these days.
