My test session is, 32 audio tracks, each with random pink noise, and the waveform boosted high, and 32 instrument tracks with the AIR Hybrid Synth playing notes on each channel. So we have 64 tracks of MIDI and audio.

No GUI lag. (Scrolling the mix window through the tracks or scrolling the edit window up & down through the tracks.)

Pro Tools 12.8.2 R2
H/W Buffer at 256 Samples
CPU Usage at 20% (with a normal session 12%)
Memory at 60% (with a normal session 30%)

NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB graphics card

El Capitan !!!! OS X 10.11.6

What's your display(s) set up/settings?

Have we been able to identify the common denominators among those who are NOT experiencing the lag?

I’m using two displays. One is a 24” Samsung resolution set to 1920x1200. The second monitor is a 27” 4K Dell resolution set to 2560x1440. Both via Thunderbolt. The mix window is on the Samsung and the edit Windows is on the dell.

I've also noticed these hidden display settings can make a difference how Pro Tools draws in the graphics. See picture below. Notice how some resolutions have two modes high and low resolution. You can try some of these settings and see if it makes a differance.

I have just updated from 12.5.2 to 12.8.2 and instant lag.

I am using a 2017 MacBook Pro with top specs available...

When scrolling left to right in mix window the faders jitter across the screen. This issue is clearly something that has changed between 12.5 and 12.8.2.

What have Avid done to try and resolve this issue so far?

How do I roll back to 12.8.1? Is this available still on the site?

12.5.2 seemed to work fine, I only updated to see what was new and now it seems really laggy. I googled it and ended up here :)

It is hardly touching the CPU, ram or disk when viewing the usage so I am led to think this is a software issue...

12.8.1 should be in your Avid Account .. it is showing in mine ..

as i mentioned just rename PT12.8.2 or whatever version you have installed on your MAC .. and then install 12.8.1 (and rename after so you can repeat this with newer version as they come out) make sense ???

We have basically the same display settings - my Apple displays are set to their defaults: 2560 x 1440 (and, just to clarify, I also have NO GUI lag issues either). Just trying to keep a tab on what the common threads are for those of us with set ups that are working ok.

1'm running a 2015 MacBook Pro 15" 2.9Ghz with Sierra and the GUI lag is unbearable with 12.8.2. I also have a maxed out MacPro 2013 with 10.10.5 (Yosemite) with HDX which always runs amazing until I installed 12.8.2.

In both cases I simply went back and installed 12.8.1 and both systems are running amazing again. I tried to do a lot of troubleshooting but it was simply 12.8.2 being the problem. Even when running just a couple tracks, same thing, the GUI is super laggy. Make a good machine feels like it's 10 years older :)

The only thing I'm worried about is them repeating the problem with the next Pro Tools update.
