Default Newbie Track count question.

Hi, After recently purchasing PT 8 LE 003 Rack Factory, I was surprised to find that it supports 48 tracks out of the box after being told that it only supported 32! (I'm certainly not complaining!)

Looking at a lot of retail sites, they also list the unit as "32 simultaneous audio tracks expandable to 48 tracks" , perhaps this was the old spec and they just changed a few items in the description to match the new version? Perhaps they changed it so it is now 48 tracks out of the box?

Anyway the unit is listed as up to 48 tracks, so does the Music Production Toolkit or DV Toolkit2 add to the 48 or is 48 the max for PT 8 LE?

This is not a problem more a matter of satisfying my curiosity.

Many Thanks.
BT.

Older versions before 8 only had 32.

It's an old spec, eliminated by the release of PT8.

Yes. Not only that, but the limit used to be 32 voices, which would be mono tracks. Stereo tracks take up two voices and would reduce the track count.

All version of Pro Tools going forward from version 8 are track count, not voice count. 48 tracks, mono or stereo.

Both the toolkits expand the track count to 48 if you are using an older version of Pro Tools. They now expand it to 64 with Pro Tools 8.

There is also a new toolkit, the Complete Production Toolkit, that expands the track count to 128 (must be using PT8), along with a few other options.

That is correct. From the CPTK description:
* Requires Pro Tools LE 8 software
** Up to 128 mono (or 64 stereo) simultaneous audio tracks at 48 kHz; up to 96 mono (or 48 stereo) audio tracks at 96 kHz with a 96 kHz-capable Pro Tools LE interface.

Yeah that is correct... I have the CPTK & that is what it is but still keeps me from having to cut on the track number view

Hmmm... you learn something new everyday.

Just another reason for me not to waste money on it and keep using the workarounds if I ever need that many.

Yes indeed it is my friend... & I'm probably one of the only guys who leaves the CPU clock @ stock speeds but I've had no need to OC it @ all...(do have it on turbo mode though)
