Default Multiple redundant playlists when prefroming ADR

Ok so I have a line of dialogue that needs replacing.

Say the actor has 5 attempts at creating a line of dialogue, this results in 5 playlists.

Then 2 minutes later they have another line. This time they do it in 3 attempts.

Is there any way to not add an extra 3 playlists? I.e. Cant I just use 3 of the 5 I have already created and then comp then on a clip basis?

Basically if the maximum amount of attempts they take to do a specific line is say, 8 for example, I only ever want there to be 8 playlists, not an ever increasing number every time they have to do a new line.

What I do here is this. Show the playlists. Record each take on the top playlist and simply drag the new clip down to another playlist and keep recording to the one on top If you're worried about placement on the timeline when you move the clip, just highlight it and hit Ctrl-X, move the cursor down to where you want to drop the clip(using the : key) and Ctrl-V to paste.

You started out saying you already had 5 playlists. My method allows you to keep recording, at any place on the timeline, and use the playlists that already exist. If you use Loop-Record with Auto-Playlist creation, every time you loop record a section, you will(AFAIK) get a new batch of playlists created, and before long, you will have dozens(not my idea of fun editing)

I dont want to turn it off. I still want to use loop record and create takes, I just want to use the playlists I've already created.

So i create 5 playlists. Then I move further on and create 3, then further along again and create 6 and then further along again and create 4 so it should give me:

So what your saying is you dont do loop recording? You do one record, move the clip, then another record, move the clip and so on and so on? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

You aren't turning off loop recording. It's just not making new playlists.

Correct. As a performer, I will use loop-record to nail down short bits, like a guitar solo, but for most everything else, I just record a pass, move it, record another.....(as the engineer) Ultimately, you should experiment with several methods and choose whichever works best for you

look on idea scale to see if it's been suggested to change that behavior. I don't split out takes until later using the matching takes function.

I wish, that would be the case, too.
It is a PITA to Start(Ctrl)-drag new takes to the lower playlists everytime a new loop recording was done.
