Smile quick tips on EQ, reverb and other plug ins

I am new to the recording world.

I have been successful in recording some stunning basic tracks (16+) but was wondering (short of trial and error)...whether there are any sites to provide quick tips on effects plug ins (reverb, eq, compression, etc).

The plugins that came bundled with the installation are a little overwhelming in terms of the multitude of settings and/or adjustments and I am not quite ready to acquire a PHD in audio engineering so I don't want to spend hours attempting to digest all the intricacies.

Cheers,
Michael

Groove 3 if you have spare cash. Alternatively, Search the DUC, Google, YouTube are other good places for research.

After you check out every tutorial you can find, just start with a solo'd track and insert each plugin(1 at a time) and tweak away. What better way to find out what each does, and whether you need/want it. EQ is maybe the easiest to learn and compressors are probably the hardest, but since these 2 are the most basic(but used the most) start with these. Reverb and delay plugins are best used on an AUX track with an AUX send to feed them(like an AUX send on all your vocal tracks to feed them into a reverb). Dive in and try to have fun with it(and maybe even take notes).

Try Michael Costas Mastering in T-Racks at Groove3 for good tips on EQ and Compression (even if you don't have T-Racks), but in the end whether it's watching tutorials or reading manuals or magazine articles or experimenting, you will inevitably have to spend hours doing either of these. There is no get slim quick pill or get professional and experienced quick tutorial.
