cross grade 10 cptK to 11 HD.. time limited?

Hi I am thinking about grabbing 11HD

i have 10 CPTK - so I guess my time is limited

my question is how much time?

and will I get a 'warning' that my time is running out - so given time to buy it 'last minute'

actually I dont think I can even run 11 yet ( I am on 10.6.8 see sig )

but I am thinking of getting a new laptop and running 11 on that...

We have talks about this before here and if I were you I would iupdate ASAP as you never know when they drop that option to upgrade.

Also you will probably not see any "warning" and you should do this as quickly as you can.

Remember that you get get a combo license with PT10/11 in that bundle som of you can't run PT11 now you can use PT10 license until you have what you need

OK! i did it..

I do want to have faster than realtime bounce - and another dumb thing about 10 that bugs me is automatoin doesnt work on

I better be able to carry on using 10 CPTK for now tho..

no need to bother transferring the authorisation to the iLOK right?

You can do the swap right now if you want... you will end up with PT10HD(same fonctionality as PT10+CPTK) and PT11HD.

Note that you need an ILOK2 for this to work.

There's a little-known benefit for PT10 users. With CPTK, you couldn't run PT10 on TDM hardware, but when you upgrade to the PT10/11HD combo, the option to use TDM hardware pops up, because it's a full PT10HD license.

...of course, I've never tried it because mixing natively with PT10HD is far more powerful than TDM

Sorry for not being up to date... Is there any official statement, that the time for upgrade is limited?
Or maybe someone could at least point the thread where this is covered in more detail?
Is it related to the next release of Pro Tools approaching or what?

I read it was a one time offer.

becos they wont 'be able' to support non HDX users in later versions - ie killing the native off after this one.

actually the only reason I was ever tempted back over here was the native option,

I like having multiple software options..

but anyway...

so if I go to some other studio - I need to make sure they got the right version installed now?

My experience with CPTK was that if I went to another studio that had an HD license on their iLok, I could do whatever I wanted, Native or TDM. Without the HD license, CPTK was stuck in Native-mode.

Like I said, I haven't fully tested this, but it appears that the CPTK to PT11 upgrade inadvertently gives CPTK users the PT10HD license that can access TDM hardware.

There is absolutely no downside to upgrading your CPTK (except perhaps some obscure backwards compatibility running PT8 or PT9 in CPTK mode).

I am not sure what you are asking but if you meant to ask if you can bring sessions to another studio with PT10HD or PT10 + CPTK they would be the same, if the other studio doesn't have HD you can still open the sessions but lose a few features and would run as a vanilla PT10

The PT10HD is the same as PT10 and CPTK so you will get the same features you have now, just that you won't risk missing the update and lose the CPTK if Avid decides to drop that option down the road.

And for you who asked if there is a timetable - No. We don't know and thats why I would not wait too long doing the update

I meant a studio I work in sometimes has PT10 ( no CPTK ) on a mac - but when I go there I can unlock surround -just add ilok

But isnt PT10 HD actual different software? or do I keep the CPTK ability if necessary?
