Default iMac 2020 27" 3.8 GHz 8-Core i7 Not compatible ?

iMac 2020 27" 3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7 is running Big Sur 11.4. I have frequent kernel panics. I tried clean installation but no help. I looked at compatibility chart of Pro Tools. The 2020 i7 chip iMac is not listed as compatible like i9 chip. Is it true? Do I have to buy i9 Mac to escape from kernel panic hell?

No, it will be something else. No way the i7 chip is the problem.
A complete OS reinstall is probably a good start. Back everything up and then re-install from a fresh OS image - it should leave all your files intact but make sure you are backed up first. Get the image from here:
https://mrmacintosh.com/macos-big-su...ly-from-apple/
(the files are actually on Apple's servers but this page has the links to them).

Then reinstall Pro Tools from a fresh download from Avid.

It's possible your hardware is faulty but if it's only Pro Tools which is causing the kernel panics it's more likely to be a driver - what have you got installed for audio interfaces etc? Those could probably be installed fresh too.

As alluded to above, Kernel Panic’s are typically HW related.

What else have you got connected to the machine? Disconnect everything and run PT and see if it persists. By everything, I mean everything. No audio interface, hubs, ext. screens. If it persists, then run a diagnostic test.

You’ll need to do some troubleshooting. Again, as mentioned above, does this only happen in PT? Can you try another DAW?

Hi guys, thank you for the advice. Glad my iMac is compatible. Not only the Pro Tools, sometimes it crashes with safari as well. I have Presonus Quantam interface. I use a TB raid drive bay connected with TB3 to TB2 adaptor. Also secondly monitor with TB to HDMI adapter. Yes I will do clean install. Just hard to find the time...

Try what I suggested before reinstalling your OS etc.
