Default Toshiba Laptop suggestions

Hey all....New to this so I am turning to the real pros for help. Have set up a small home studio and got the mbox as well as a new Toshiba Satellite A70. It seemed to satisfy the requirements but i have had problems from day 1. Hours spent on the phone with Toshiba & Digi tech have resulted in nothing changing. During record & play back I get in a minute at the longest and get error 9029 ( audio porcessing conflicting with other cpu tasks ) no matter what I disbale......and its been bare.......I cannot get more...........techs seem to think it could be a chipset issue which Toshiba denies. Fed up. They will take it back but I must purchase an upgrade from them(credit) I want to know if there is a Toshiba product that you guys have had no trouble with other than the Series 1900 which they no longer make. Any input would be very much appreciated. John

Hi John,

I've run an LE studio (sometimes) on a Toshiba laptop and wouldn't really recommend them.

Anyway, I've had to disable the wireless networking, sound card, ethernet, and the SD controller card/slot (and add RAM) for best results.

I had to also delete a lot of useless software to get it running its best (careful though unless your a power user/tech).

Also, its a definate must to have an external hardrive.

Furthermore, closely follow Digidesign's setup specifications for running Pro Tools LE on a Windows XP machine.

With some tweaking you can get them to work pretty decent though.

Len

I've got an a70 and it works fine. I disabled the wirless stuff and uninstalled loads of software. I have the base MS apps and PT and Ableton installed on it. I must confess to not tracking huge sessions in it but I have never had that error. Ableton works fine with if I use the MBox as the sound card (I used it live several times) - if I use the sound card on the motherboard I get a jump or stutter after about 20 minutes.
