Default Forgive my ignorance, but...

I'm thinking of upgrading from LE to HD. I know I can't use my 002 with HD, but don't really want to pony up the $$$ for a control 24 or 192. Can I use HD with ONLY a Command8 the way I use LE with my 002? Or do I have to have an interface as well as the controller?

THANKS!

You have to buy an interface.A 96 I/O is pretty cheap on ebay these days.

Yes, the Command8 is a controller only so you still need an IO interface. As MEAT said, 96 IO's are not expensive but they also don't sound any better than the 003 so you might want to save your pennies for a used 192 IO as it has much better converters. You will still need enough mic preamps for whatever you want to record as both the 96 and 192 IO's are line in and digital in only. Do some more research so you have a full understanding of what you need to get into HD as there are a few pieces. The core card plus an IO box plus a preamp is the bare minimum. Many here think that HD3 is the minimum to seriously beat LE performance(given the power of a new i7 Native system). Opinions will vary and I don't have enough HD experience to give an educated opinion yet. Digi has a nice trade up deal for 002 owners and, IF you can afford HD3, it will include a lot of plugins that you won't get(for free anyway) with HD1 or 2.
