16 gigs on Apple Silicon feels just as much as 32 gigs on Intel. So far the max swapping I have seen was 50 megs, and add to that the swap is on blazing fast storage that is actually faster than DDR memory of 2005 (imagine having two terabytes of RAM back then). Did this address your concern?

That’s what I hear. I have 64 in my trashcan because I also do video. Maybe I should just but one and try it.

Unless you edit with FCP maybe better wait or a while... unless you are willing to shell the money for maxed out M1 mac mini for the love of sport.

Avid native compatibility expected anytime, but surely it must not slip to 2023

Old thread revival to denote that after 5 pages of explanations as to why PT only uses performance cores, Avid have now made a major architectual change to PT on all Silicon processors. From 2024.3 onwards, PT now uses all cores - performance and efficiency.

For base-level processors, it looks like a monumental doubling of power with 8 cores now visible on the system meters and not 4, but I'd be surprised if it was as simple as this. How much of a performance boost does this give in practice?

And given all the discussion and justification here on this thread, is it going to be LESS stable now? I highly doubt this will be the case, but I'm really curious to understand what has changed under the hood.

It just shows the pct used on eff cores, but tells you nothing where they are being used. Audio is still processed using perf cores and eff cores used for non-realtime-critical tasks.

Well, it's definitely not a doubling of power, because an efficiency core is nothing like as powerful as a performance core.
I do agree that without an explanation, it is hard to know what this actually means for Pro Tools performance or stability.

On processor space, you can replace one performance core with four efficiency cores. So no, they do not compare well.

Now they are just all showing, but by the picture you have no idea what the efficiency cores are doing, that has not changed. You cannot even tell which is performance core and which is efficiency core (while you would assume first ones are p and last ones are e cores).

So whatever the PT meters show for the 8 cores is junk info?

Customer base asks to see all info, customer base gets to see all info. It was better when we only saw performance cores, now we do not know what is causing problem, audio processing or gui processing.

Yeah, it’s kind of messy JFreak. Jeff Komar told me months ago did not really go by our system info thing it’s not really accurate. I think that’s what he told me anyway recovering from the surgery so I’m kind of out of it-:)
