<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">With XP it is easy to setup different user profiles so I'd recommend setting up a profile just for PTLE that limits the programs running in the background.

My recording computer is my only computer so I use it for everything. Games, email, internet etc. I have had no problems related to other progs being on there. At least I don't think so!

Aside from a (now resolved) Motorola SB 4100 Cable Modem driver that was causing spontaneous reboots, I (now) have no problems at all using this machine (under XP Pro ) for everything. I sometimes am online while running a PT session.

The most clean way to have both your daily stuff and your PT, is to make a dualboot. I run this setup with one office/playing boot, and on audio only boot. Some games and the office pack indeed, make a lot of changes in the registry that can pull down perfomance

It's always best to have a dedicated machine that was designed and built for audio running independant from your other computer stuff.... I personally have (2) PC's for Giga, one for my audio, and a MAC for sequencing...

I use the same PC for both PT and Internet. When I want to use PT, I disable the motherboard's network interface "card" (NIC) in the CMOS when booting. PT runs better without the NIC -- fewer freezes. All I have to do is reboot, change the CMOS BIOS setting and the internet works great. I use a Win98 (still) on a P III 1 ghz w/ 390 meg ram. R

I use it for everything. That includes my serious online gaming (MOHAA) habit.

Battlefield 1942 is way more fun online than MOHAA
