Default Old Catalogs Don't Work

Hi!!

When I moved from PT version 7 to 8, all my catalogs became unreadable by PT. I tried to copy them to the catalogs directory then and PT, when is starting up, asks me if I want to convert them, but nothing happens!

Does Anyone Know how to fix this??

Thanks!

Hi,

Can you be more specific what you mean? what precisely are you referring to? catalogs and catalogs directory?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply and I'm sorry If I wasn't clearer...

By catalogs, I mean Digibase Catalogs.

What I do is, whenever I backup something to a DVD I create a digibase catalog based on it. That Way, when I have to work on an old project, I can search for it and know exactly in what DVD it is.

When I moved from ProTools 7 to 8 those catalogs were unreadable. Every time PT is launched it asks me if I want to convert those Digibase catalogs to the new format. I say YES, but the databases continue to be unreadable. If I remove theses files from

Library > Application Support > Digidesign > Databases > Unicode

PT stops asking me to convert the files.

My question is if does anyone know how to convert properly these digibase catalogs, or if it could be that I sould have done something to these files (catalogs) when upgrading from Version 7.

Thanks again and I hope I've made some sense!

Hi,

Yes, i think we fully understand now

I think there was a big change around about PT8 in the way the whole database files were written and how it worked. i can't remember exactly which version, but it did change and the database files were no longer written to each partition etc.

Can't really help personally as its not something i use a great deal!

But if you leave it converting to the new format for quite a long period! does anything happen, i just wondered if you need to leave it converting for longer, say try this before you leave the studio or take a long break and check when you get back if its made any progress, as i think it could take some time to convert it!!!

Thanks again for your help Chris!

When PT is launched and asks me to convert the catalogs, it does say that it can take a long time. But about 2 seconds after I say yes it continues with the normal routines and no error messages are shown. When I open workspace and check the catalogs folder, the .ddb files are shown as any other file, not as a folder with subfolders like it should.

Thanks!
