Default LA Scoring Strings?

Anyone here using it yet? I have to say, their demos sound amazing to me, and I'm about to drop the grand to buy, it's on sale for $1099.

But curious if anyone has been using them and what you think overall.

Go over to vi-control.net and do a search for LASS. You'll find a massive amount of discussion about it, almost all of it positive. I got it for $999 as a pre-order, but $1099 is still a really good price.

Would LA Scoring Strings work in Structure? If not what would be the best way to use them in ProTools 8.

I believe you need Kontakt to run it.

It supposedly works and comes with the free Kontakt Player.

I ordered it today, couldn't resist, $200 off and the demos just sound awesome. And I give up waiting for the vaporware that Hollywood Strings appears to be.

And I'm happier with a Kontakt based set than a Play one anyway.

And Andrew K, the developer is easily accessible and replied to my email within an hour. That's almost enough to favor him over EW.

There are some less expensive LITE versions on the way as well.

Saw those, but decided for the whole thing. And Andrew is working on an expanded muted string expansion too later this spring that will make a great addition too.

Fun stuff.

Anyone familiar with LASS as well as Vienna's strings? How do these compare?

Vienna set the bar very high.

Three quick differences: LASS Divisi is really easy to use. If you use three tracks per section as I do you can divide without any sweat (of course your editing tasks are tripled, but you get used to it). VSL would require purchase of the chamber strings for smaller sound. Also VSL Portamenti are one speed (and a bit fake sounding to me). LASS has adjustable speed portamenti. LASS has ART, while VSL just has some repetition articulations.

There are more differences, but to sum it up for me: I used to use Appassionata Strings as my main string library, and now I use LASS as my main go-to. LASS plus Symphobia makes more sense to me than LASS plus VSL.
