Default Audio from Venue coming into PT over HDx is about -20 db

hey guys,

ive been doing some some live recording with the venue using hdx into an HD2 Accel rig running PT 7.4.2. The levels getting tracked into PT are way less than what's hitting the board. What am i missing? Thanks a lot.

The systems reference 0 dB differently. Quickest fix is to change your meters from peak to RMS. That will get you more signal to PT. Easiest way to understand what is going on is to watch the 05/23/08 webinar on PT HD vs PT LE and the 06/25/08 webinar on Virtual Soundcheck.

Your levels are the same. 0dB on Venue equals -20dB in Pro Tools.

That is correct electrically. I should have said that 0dB on the meters is referenced differently, PT references 0dB as 0dBfs while on the Venue 0 dB will equal -18 to -20dB in PT. Thus you will always be -18 to -20 dB down in PT if your Venue meters are set for Peak. Optimum input for PT should come in between -12 to -8 dB and the easiest way to get that gain back is to switch to RMS metering.
