XP Users, Disabling CD-Rom Auto Play???
I'm slowly changing over to XP and 5.3 (on a separate swappable system drive so that I still have my Win 98 system in tact) and I'm having trouble disabling Auto play on the CD-Rom drive. It is different than 98 (as you already know this). I can't find where you can turn auto play OFF. All I'm able to do is select "take no action" for several different types of CD media. Once I do this, it still starts up whenever I insert a CD. What am I missing? Are you really able to fully disable CD Auto Play in XP like you can in 98?? Thanks in advace, Jason

Re: XP Users, Disabling CD-Rom Auto Play???
You need to edit registry in WinXP to do that...
Explained here; http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/6/

Re: XP Users, Disabling CD-Rom Auto Play???
you can do it by editing the registry if you like but there is another way if you don't like registry tweaking.
Open My Computer. Right-click your CD Drive and select properties. Click the AutoPlay tab. Click Select an action to perform. Select Take no action. Click Apply and perform these steps for each of the file catagories in the pulldown at the top. |

Re: XP Users, Disabling CD-Rom Auto Play???
Also, the first time you pop in a CD in XP, you get a dialog asking what action to take in the future. When you choose "Take No Action", you are disabling autoplay.

Re: XP Users, Disabling CD-Rom Auto Play???
Thanks guys. As I said in the first post, I did all the "Take no Action" selecting but it is still auto inserting?? I'll try the registry changing and see what that does. Thanks again, Jason

Re: XP Users, Disabling CD-Rom Auto Play???
Editing registry, I found, the easiest and most guaranteed. I di not try the XP tweak program though.

Re: XP Users, Disabling CD-Rom Auto Play???
You don't need to edit the registry. Download Tweak UI for XP and install it. It's got all kinds of cool settings in it. One of which is the ability to turn of autodetect on any or all drives.
