Old synth files: worth saving?
My ancient Mirage Ensoniq (maximum sampling-rate of 32kHz and 8-bit resolution) has a lot of original samples as well as some very cool store-bought sounds.
My questions: 1. Is it worth time/trouble to copy these audio files? 2. What is the best way to capture that audio? 3. Would it matter what I set my PT sample rate at? I would assume that a ¼”TS cable going out from the Ensoniq into Pro Tools would be the simplest way, but at an original bit-rate of “8”, a higher rate is probably not a key issue. With all the fantastic sounds on my Pro Tools LE (i.e., “TimewARP 2600” and “Xpand!” to name a few), I know that I really have more mind-blowing sounds than I could ever use. But like I said, there are a few unique sounds that I could never recapture again. Your thoughts? Thanks!

Re: Old synth files: worth saving?
My thoughts are that if you like those sounds and are planning to sell the mirage you'll find at some point in the future that you'll miss them. Time permitting of course I would sample what you like best from the Ensoniq. You can do this with Structure if you have it, by recording right into PT. I wouldn't worry about the bit rate.
