Default Recovery of corrupted wav files

I was recording my podcast as usual into protools, when I reached for something and hit the "Sleep" key on my keyboard by accident. my computer tried to go to sleep and locked up. Now I have a set of WAV files that still ahve audio data, but I cannot open them.

the session was recorded in 24-bit, 44.1k, based on a suggestion I found online, I imported the files into soundforge as Raw PCM, as 24-bit, 44.1k, and the audio while there was clipping horribly. It was not clipping when I recorded it.

Question is, is this due to the fact that soudforge was trying to force 24 bits into a 16 bit hole? namely my sound blaster card... or is there some other solution.

Lastly, do AIFF files have this problem with needing header and trailer data to be written after the audio data in order to be useful?

Yes.

I can probably fix the files for you... if it's important... for a small fee -- email me.

Update:

When importing the wav files into Soundforce as Raw PCM adjusting the offset apparently did the trick. (IIRC an offset on 1 Byte, Further tweaking could probably completely remove the digital noise that is created from the headers.) I have since recovered and posted the podcast in question with no further problems.

My previous question still stands: Do AIFF files suffer from this problem or will they, (Like .mpg videos and .mp3 audio be able to somply play what's there untill there is no more data?

All sound files require header info and "chunks".
