I just installed PT 2022.5 and the installer said that among other things that it was necessary to install Avid Link and Avid Cloud Services. Is it really necessary to have these two apps installed or can I uninstall them? Pro Tools works fine so far. Thanks!

They're required installs. A lot of people then uninstall them.

I uninstall both those items after every upgrade - even before I restart the machine.
![]() Avid must know how some of us feel because they provide the uninstallers. On a Mac, an "Avid_Uninstallers" folder can be found inside the Applications folder. |

I don't use Avid Cloud Services, so I uninstall it immediately. Avid Link 2022.5.1 showed me some Updates I needed - like 18.8 versions of Pro Limiter, Tape Echo, Studio Reverb, Tel-Ray Variable Delay and Eleven Effects. These may have been available in an earlier version of Link, but I didn't have them. From now on I'll install Avid Link - definitely opt for the "Manual" install instead of "Install All" - update what I need, then uninstall Avid Link in Windows "Programs and Features", then uninstall Avid Link in Program Files>Avid, then run CCleaner and CCleaner Registry/restart computer. It's a handy App - you can also see what you need then uninstall it and download your update/s from your Avid Master Account>My Products.

Instead of deleting AVID Link, I stop the app before each of my Pro Tools sessions. I do use the AVID Link update installer, though.

If you're using CCleaner, don't uninstall Avid Link, use CCleaner to stop it from starting at boot, then manually start it when you want to use it.

Uninstalling Cloud Client Services and Avid Link are the first things I do after a Pro Tools install.
