Can anyone offer any words of caution and advice? I made the move to El Capitan (10.11) and I am noticing weird glitchy behavior now. So the thinking is I sort of have to make the move. (I switched to El Capitan because some software I have needed it to work properly).
Thanks to all, Josh |

Here's the best advice you will ever get. Have a backup plan! If it were me, I would remove the system drive just as it is. Install a new drive(probably a good SSD) and install the OS, tweak, install PT12(and any required drivers) and test. If all is good, save a drive image(I keep some big USB drives for this purpose only). Then install the rest of your software and run the system for a few weeks. If all is good, save another drive image. If anything goes sour, put your old drive in and go back to work(assuming your current system is trouble-free). That way, you can sort out issues at your leisure without trashing a solid(but dated) setup

Well there are a few that have it working and a lot that do not.
I am one of the do nots. 12.4 and 12.5 are the worst versions I have ever installed in a computer. From me? I'd say 11 is way more stable. |

Hey albee, just curious ... why swap drives instead of simply restoring back to a working drive image? I use Acronis, and the restore process (my boot drive is using about 53GB of space) takes 1/2 hour or so. For me at least, a hardware swap would be a pain.

Flip that around. It only feels that way because you've had issues combined with the fact that only people with issues come on a forum like this. |

A few questions for the OP
1) What version of PT are you using now is it stable and are you happy with it? 2)Are you upgrading to 12 because you need the features or just want to be current? 3)Are you prepared to move to a subscription plan for future updates, support and upgrades? 4)Do you have a computer powerful enough & a OS that plays nice with PT12? 5)Are you ready to deal with the documented bugs & glitches in PT12 that many here have documented? Ask yourself the above questions and then make your decision. And absolutely follow all optimizations and clone your present system drive as suggested by post#2 it is as good advise as you will get! I own a PT 10/11/12 perpetual license & still running PT 10.3.10 if that tells you anything. But there are folks here running PT 12 & very happy with it. TWM

I am running PT 12.4 with Yosemite. No issues. I am going to wait until El Capitan is reported to be more reliable with PT 12. There are too many mixed reviews. I also just received an upgrade notice that If I do not pay subscription fee then I will no longer receive critical updates? Everything works fine. Should I upgrade and if I do not will I run into problems?

Don't upgrade yet, 12.4 & 12.5 are very unstable on both mac and windows.
On the other hand 11 is rock solid on both platforms! I upgraded to 12 as soon as it came out and i haven't been able to successfully use it in a real session with clients without it falling apart. If you don't want to look bad and unprofessional in front of clients, avoid 12 until AVID figure how to make it stable. |

Re swapping drives vs using images, nothing wrong with using images(unless the one you need won't restore
