PT 8 crashes on close, old session - crash log incl

Whats happening- When i open an old session everything is smooth, things run fine. but after i close it PT crashes, then if i try to launch pt again the computer crashes. its lame

Have you done any troubleshooting at all? its all in the sticky top of this forum.

trash prefs is one of the first things to do and you can use this app...

Thanks for responding. Yes prefs are good. I should also note this is the only session that appears to have this problem, and it occurs on all our computers. And yes Plugins good too.

Then why all the effort? It is obviously a corrupted session. What have you done to address that? create a new session and import session data??ff

Hi formfunction,
I tried importing session data, linking, and copying. both times the session still crashes on close, then upon reopening PT the computer crashes.

I care because this is a session i need to access and its highly inconvenient for me to have to restart the computer every time I need to close the session. I have troubleshooted and followed the sticky instructions, and have submitted my crash log so anyone who might be able to help could.

Hi,

A few more things to try...

1. Open the session whilst holding down the shift key! this will open with all the plugins de-activated. now close the session and see if it crashes.


2. If above doesn't work and it still crashes! try using import session data again, create a new session and this time import half the session; say tracks 1-20 of a 40 track session. see if you can close the session with the first 20 tracks etc. if it still crashes do the process again and import just the first 10 tracks and try to identify which track is causing the issue, this will take a bit of time and patience hunting down the one track that causes the problem.

If closing the session with all the plugs de-activated works as above (number 1) then try activating the plugs a few at a time and closing!! again repeat till you can find the possible culprit.

If you've done all the troubleshooting it only leaves a few things..

1. a plugin can cause this and i have had it recently with Serato Rane series gate! but often people say they are all up to date with plugins and when we check their installed plugins list we often find incompatible or out of date plugins in the folder!! they don't have to be in the session!!!! as all plugs are loaded into the cache when PT loads and can still cause problems.


2. a region is corrupt and using the method above will help to hunt down the track/region causing the problem.

3. PT has a corrupt file and needs to be re-installed

there are a few other possible causes, but as this is session specific its most likely one of the above causes

Thanks Crizdee. I tried the deactivating and found that trim was the plugin that seems to be crashing the session, but after I removed it from the session it still crashed! so im gonna keep trucking and see if there are 2 bad plugins. thanks again.
