Hardware install problems / blue screen / 6.4

I was hoping to see if any of you may have an answer to my problem as this has been pretty frustrating the past couple days.
I am new to protools. Purchased interface and card + 5.1 off ebay, but am using the 6.4 installer off digidesign's site (i have XP). I can run the install and everything, but after it's done when i restart, get a blue screen with the message IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I've tried looking up this message on this site and googling but haven't been able to come up with a solution yet. To be able to start the computer back up i have to run it at the last known good configuration, which seems to have the 6.4 software installed, but the hardware not installed yet.
Things i have tried include:
-downloading the PACE driver
-setting the hardware accel to NONE
-disabling onboard sound
-looking for RAID stuff in the bios (didn't find anything)
-running the 6.4cs9 thing after running 6.4 installer

when sending an error report to microsoft sometimes i get back a thing saying it's a video card problem, but with a different error message than the one i'm seeing.

here is my system:
AMD Sempron 3400+
1.79GHZ 512DDR
Windows XP Home Service Pack 2
ATI Radeon Xpress 200
160GB seagate

any help is greatly appreciated. i hate computers i just want to record.

Did you purchase 6.4? Or just download it from the site? The download that does not require purchase is an update that needs a previous Pro Tools 6.x install to function.

Also, no version of Pro Tools supports the Sempron, especially not 6.4.

There are also reported incomaptibility issues with the Radeon xpress 200 chipsets
