Hello all.
I finally recieved my Mbox today. Very exciting- until the install. I followed all of the windoze tweaks as closely as I could and completed the install. Then upon clicking the icon to fire ProTools LE my computer flashes a blue screen (not long enough for me to read) and then restarts. Upon booting, it tries to send a message to Microsoft about the system recovery etc. I tried un-installing and re-installing ProTools and Quicktime as instructed on the DigiDesign website and on various posts here, but the problem remains. Gateway 7422GX Win XP Service Pack 2 I am a little confused about the whole Ilock.com thing, wondering if that is an issue. Got my account- not sure what to do with it. I am not a computer guru, but I am no dummy either. This intallation process needs to be a bit more user friendly. I won't fight it for long, I'll just send it back. I just don't have time for this kind of horrible product experience. I've got clients waiting for me. Who can offer this beginner a useful tidbit? Many thanks!!! |

We need more information, a start would be to, Right click "My computer" in the start menu.
Select the Advanced Tab Click the "settings" button in the Startup and Recovery dialog. Under "system Failure"... UNCHECK the "automatically restart" button. Now.... the "Blue screen of death" .... write down what it's saying, and post it here. is it a VXD error ? a driver error, listing the driver ?? Also... do a search in here for "DEP Fix"

i had this problem when i first got my mbox and it turned out my motherboard chipset wasn't supported i had a SiS chipset and according to Digidesign they arent supported so i actually had to build a new computer so i did and i went with an AMD system and an Asus A7V600 mobo and now it works fine. Mine actually would install but as soon as it restarted in the installation process i would click on the PT icon and then that blue screen would come up, hope that isn't your problem but it did that exact same thing. Good Luck!
nate oh and if you want to know what chipset is in your mobo just look at the motherboard and there should be a small black stamp size chip and it'll say on that what it is. (ie: intel, VIA, SiS etc.) |

I'm new to this, so go easy on me! I purchased an HP model ZV5330US laptop with a P4 3.2 gHz processor, 512 MB RAM and XP Home w/SP 2, to run ProTools LE 6.7 Digi002 Rack.
I followed the pre-install instructions, except for 1 item I could not locate on my machine, then loaded the software. After the install, I could open the program OK, but the minute I'd click on ANY drop down menu item, the "Blue Screen" would appear. The processor had "Hyper-Threading". The item I could not complete in the pre-install steps was disabling the Hyper-Threading. I went to the BIOS to disable the Hyper-Threading, but that was not even listed as an option. I contacted HP and they said I was out of luck. It could not be disabled. Per Digi, the system won't work at all with Hyper-Threading, so my new laptop was now useless to me. I was lucky enough to be able to return the machine. I replaced it with another HP, model ZV5340US. This is a similar machine, but the processor is an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2 gHz. I followed the pre- install instructions again. After this install, when I clicked on the PT desktop icon, I got the "Blue Screen", the program could not be opened, and my machine would shut down. Am I crazy for wanting to dump this machine and get a PowerBook? I'm a PC guy (nothing against Mac's) but I'm frustrated and just want this thing to work. |

Ok here's an update- it's not good.
I unchecked the "automatically restart" button. That allows me to actually read the blus screen. More on that in a moment. I also did the DEP fix, though I followed the Microsoft website instruction for that. I still crashed when I tried to activate PTLE. Here's what the blue screen said... Among the random attenpts to be helpful was the following line: *** STOP: OXOOOOOO8E (OXCOOOOOO5, OXOOOOOOOO, OXBAB6A014, OXOOOOOOOO) and then it goes on & on about it's physical dump of memory. It seems really proud of itself. This is an AMD 64 chipset by the way, and like another post I recently read, I could find no way of deactivating the Hyper-Threading thing. As I mentioned, I did try to re-install- twice now, and no change. In another curious twist, I can no longer get Netscape to activate. Clicking the icon gets no reaction. Is that any hint? I'll keep poking at it and waiting for more tips, though it is killing me softly! You guys are great!!! Thanks so much for helping out!!!!!! |

Thanks for the code. Quick note, those need to be ZEROS, not the letter "O". Took me a second to figure out why searching didn't get many results... :>
Searching google for 0x0000008e reveals that this is a fairly general exception code. The next clue is to see what module is listed next. I read about this for video and RAM being the problem in a few instances. But see if there's a file name of some sort pointing to the culprit. I suggest resetting the BIOS to defaults and rebooting. That MIGHT fix it. Reset, reboot, re-post!

I'd Reset the bios, like suggested, to default, re-format / Re-Install Windows SP-1, and try Pro-tools at that point, as you update, and install applications.... keep checking pro-tools, and if it crashes, you'll know where your conflict is.
I've had to do this before, and found that my GigaStudio was making my version of pro-tools crash. If after a bios reset, fresh install of windows, pro tools is crashing still... right away, try the DEP fix, start pulling Ram. Those are my suggestions, all of them were itterated above.... but this is where I'd start, and the order of things I'd do. Let us know.

I'm sorry, there is no file name anywhere on the blues screen. The rest of the screen is the generic windows problem solving stuff. I'll try the bios thing and post back.
Thanks for your work!!! |

BIOS reset to default. Clicking PTLE still = the blues. My system came with Service Pack 2 already installed. I just bought it a few weeks ago. If I were brave enough to try to go back to SP 1, how would I do it? I don't usually tinker this deep.
Thanks everyone! |
