DAE error 6008

I downloaded PT free, and can't get it to function because of "error-6008 not enough memory". The message says to reallocate memory, which is for Mac systems, I have a PC with Windows ME. The program starts and runs until I try to open a new file and then gives this error. Is it the soundcard? I have a Quadrant PCI 3D sound card, which seams to comply with the requirements, but I'm not sure. I have more than enough memory-256k and the program requires 192k.
