Default Re: protools HD7 to 10?

Sounds like to me after reading the responses and doing a bit more searching around... I should probably use what I have for a bit longer... Then upgrade to the HDX cards and I/O when I can. As prices can go nowhere but down as the new HD11 aax stuff is more widely accepted.

At least thats what I'm gathering... I may be wrong and should upgrade now while my cards are still of SOME resell value...

???

Depends on your needs. You can cross grade and save a few grand on HDX. HDX is going to be the way to go, HD Native is in my opinion not an upgrade if you are running a commercial facility or doing post work.

But remember plugins aren't there jut yet concerning Pro Tools 11. There are lots, but some just have yet to finish coding.

I play several instruments. I mostly want to be able to multitrack live instruments and be able to record jam sessions with friends and/or record demos for friends bands.

Is the latency and overall sound quality really THAT much better with the new I/O and HDX cards?

Latency, probably not much difference. Sound quality, the conversion on the new HD interfaces is noticeably better than the 192's. but the 192's have certainly been good enough to record many top selling albums.

The biggest advantage of HDX over HD would be processing power. One HDX card is the equivalent of an HD3 to an HD5, depending on what you're doing.

Well, 11 is the thing... I mean if you have the funds for HDX go HDX. Do you need HDX? No.

If money is tight then stay with TDM. I'm running TDM and have no plans to upgrade to HDX in the next 2 or 3 years... Maybe even longer!!!
