Pro Tools HD with WD 3TB Hard Drive
I've been having this issue with Pro Tools and a new external Western Digital 3 TB hard drive. This was true for two separate hard drives, both new, both WD 3 TB drives.
I'm using Pro Tools HD 8.1.1 on Mac OS X v10.6.8, and I feel like a total fool. Here is the problem: When loading a Pro Tools session off the external hard drive, there's a DAE error 35, but only when the audio linked to the session is audio on the external drive. Similarly, creating a Pro Tools session and loading audio into the session effects the same error. I've gone through the obvious possible solutions (and many less obvious): 1. Trashed the Pro Tools prefs. 2. Trashed the Pro Tools database files. 3. Used that application to trash them again for good measure. 4. Reallocated Pro Tools sessions to the external drive. 5. Saved sessions as... to the external drive. 6. Started new sessions and pulled the audio in. 7. Repartitioned hard drive partition as an APM (Apple Partition Map) rather than GUID seeing as the other hard drives in use are partitioned as APMs 9. Reformatted hard drive as Mac HD Extended (Journaled) rather than Journaled/Case-Sensitive seeing as the other hard drives in use are reformatted as such. Does anybody have any other ideas? Am I just missing something simple? Let me know if you'd like any other information. I really appreciate the help. Thank you, Stephen |

Re: Pro Tools HD with WD 3TB Hard Drive
Every 3TB WD I've seen has been a Green Series drive. If you can I would punch the model number into Google and see what what type of drive you have

Re: Pro Tools HD with WD 3TB Hard Drive
Yep, Green models are bad. What you can do though is partition the drive 50-50 and only use the first partition for audio. Second for backups or other storage. Sure you lose half of it, but then again you shouldn't be using full drives anyway.
Now I'm not saying this is sure thing, but it *may* help you and make the green drive usable. Why? Because partitioning cuts latency and latency is very important performance factor when you have lots of tracks going on. Next time, buy Black drives even though they cost more and have less capacity -- they cost more for a reason

Re: Pro Tools HD with WD 3TB Hard Drive
Brilliant. Thanks for the help. I'll partition it 50/50 and pray that it works out, and if not, no big loss, I can just use it as storage.
